Energy Outside Your Home

I've always been focused on the energy inside my home. Until recently, when I realized how affected I am by the energy right outside my front door!

Last year, I made the decision to turn a rarely used front room in our home into my office. I was tired of moving my work stuff every time we needed to eat at the kitchen table!

One of the things I decided about my new office was that everything in it was going to be a “hell yeah!” So, I set about shopping for incredible fabrics, exquisite paint colors and fun trinkets.

I thought I had considered everything. Until I started working in my new space.

That's when I realized the importance of considering your outside environment as well as your inside environment.

Inside my office, I moved my desk into the feng shui power position. I hung a new crystal light fixture that cast rainbows across the room. And I painted the walls a beautiful shade of pale turquoise creating an atmosphere of creativity and tranquility.

And yet, I kept feeling like something was off.

It didn’t take long to realize my home office was bearing the brunt of the chi from the road in front of our home. No matter how hard I tried to create a calm environment inside my office, the location of the window and my desk meant that I was the energetic target of every car driving towards our house!

Once I tuned into this, my first thought was OH NO! And my second thought was a cry for HELP!

I quickly hired a landscaper to tackle my problem. I asked if a “big rock” would look good in the corner of my property. He said “Yes!” So, a beautiful, decorative boulder along with some ornamental grasses were strategically placed to disperse the arrow chi from the road.

Now here comes the fun part!

The boulder and grasses did in fact fix my arrow chi problem. But, they did something even far greater.

Recently in the midst of doing some deep healing work, I realized that I had absorbed an ancestral belief that the women in our family were stupid. It was a belief that I’ve been running from ever since I was a child by overachieving and working excessively hard.

After these patterns came to light, I said outloud…”Now where is this belief showing up in my home?

I pictured the feng shui bagua in my head and immediately went to the area that represents Knowledge. My garage. Well that made sense. It’s the space in our home that I have to work the hardest to maintain positive energy. The one that feels the most out of sorts.

And then, I broadened the bagua to include my yard.

AHA!

The front left corner of my home, the Knowledge area, was that piece of yard next to the driveway that had never been landscaped. The area that was bearing the brunt of the arrow chi.

In that moment, I realized that the desire for a “big rock” wasn’t just to disperse the road energy. It was also a desire to increase and anchor the energy in the Knowledge area of my property. And an innate desire to increase and anchor the confidence within myself.

And can I tell you, I can feel the shift.

In place of the constant swirliness and urge to prove myself through hard work, there is a new sense of ease and grace that is emerging.
